The next big 3D platformer for Super Mario will be titled Super Mario 3D World. The game will be a sequel to the 3DS title Super Mario 3D Land and will be released for the Wii U. The game will feature 4 player co-op multiplayer, a first for a Mario 3D game with Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad as playable characters. Interestingly enough, each character has unique abilities rather than being copies of each other – something not seen since Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES. Much like it’s predecessor, the game looks like a mash-up between Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros. Super Mario 3D World will be released December 2013.
The game also features a new main power-up much like the previous did with the Tanooki Suit. This new power-up transforms Mario into Cat Mario… wait… what? Yeah, you heard me. The new ability puts the player in a cat suit giving them new abilities such as the ability to climb up walls and attack enemies with their new-found claws. Sounds a little goofy, but it continues the theme that the previous game started. (Although I’m not a big fan of dressing Mario up as a Furry).
