According to various sources, Robert Rodriguez has entered more serious negotiations to direct Deadpool, the spin-off of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in which Ryan Reynolds would presumably return to fill the role. Prior reports alleged that Rodriguez had been offered the director’s chair, but these rumors were denied by both himself and 20th Century Fox.

We’re now hearing that Rodriguez is getting closer and closer to making those rumors a reality. It has at least been confirmed that he was sent a script from writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Other slated projects for the director include the soon to be released Machete, and Spy Kids 4: Armageddon on the horizon. It’s clear that this mix of violence and comedy, along with the obvious range in rating, is exactly why Fox has an interest in Rodriguez.
