I finally got a chance to watch this tonight. I wish I could say I was as impressed with it as the two of you. I've read a lot of reviews at this point that are either glowing or completely bashing, but I'm right in between. I found one review that pretty much matched my impression and I'll leave you with pieces of that.

"Gorgeously filmed adaptation of the classic children's book "Where The Wild Things Are" suffers only one major flaw: it's boring as sin. While the creature design and cinematography are striking to the eye, this celebration of childhood imagination goes nowhere fast."

"...this is too intense and existential for children and the story is too thin for adults, leaving the film without a proper audience. Kudos are reserved for the production team and technical staff, but this film is ultimately a misfire."

If you haven't seen this movie then you are doing it wrong.

The only thing I have to add is that the film's soundtrack is one of the best ever. Karen O kills it. 'All is love' - 'Heads up'- and 'Rumpus' are well worth .99 on itunes.

This was the best movie I'd seen in a theater since Lord of the Rings. Easily.
