Walton Goggins cast as lead for Amazon’s Fallout TV show

Walton Goggins has been cast as the lead for Prime Video’s series adaptation of the video game franchise Fallout.

While full details about Goggins’ character have not been revealed, he is believed to be playing a Ghoul. In Fallout, ghouls are mutated humans who experienced prolonged radiation exposure amid the nuclear war.

Amazon originally announced the series in 2020 with Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy of Westworld behind the creation of the show.

Peacemaker renewed for Season 2 at HBO Max

James Gunn has confirmed that Peacemaker has officially been renewed for a second season at HBO Max.

Gunn had previously shared that a renewal was likely thanks to the first season’s impressive viewing numbers. Aside from Peacemaker’s next adventure, Gunn is also developing another TV series spinning out of the events of last year’s The Suicide Squad, though the headlining character for that series currently remains a mystery.

Stranger Things Season 4 will release in two parts

In an open letter to fans, Stranger Things series creators the Duffer Brothers revealed when new episodes will debut on Netflix, along with more news on the future of the show.

The letter reveals that Season 4 of Stranger Things will debut in two parts, with Volume 1 arriving on May 27^th and Volume 2 on July 1^st. The reason behind the decision is that Season 4 is nearly twice the length of any past season.

The other major piece of news announced is that Season 5 of Stranger Things will be its last. The creators had a story arc in mind from the beginning, and Season 5 will see their vision reach its planned conclusion.

Netflix is making a BioShock movie

Netflix is teaming up with 2K and Take-Two Interactive for a film adaptation of the BioShock series.

The streaming service released no further details, other than that the movie will be produced by 2K and Vertical Entertainment, a production company that’s worked on big studio horror films over the past 20 years.

Previously, director Gore Verbinski was attached to a big-budget film adaptation, however that fell apart around 2010.

Paramount announces Sonic 3 and Knuckles spinoff series

While Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hasn’t yet released, Paramount has announced that Sonic 3 is already in development. In addition to a third movie for the franchise, a spinoff series following Knuckles is in the works for Paramount+ with Idris Elba continuing his role from the sequel, which will hit theaters on April 8^th.

John Cena set to star in Coyote vs. Acme for Warner Bros.

John Cena has closed a deal to star in Coyote vs. Acme, a live-action/CG hybrid feature film from Warner Bros. centered on the classic Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote.

Wile E. Coyote is the silent and cunningly inventive animal who is endlessly foiled in his attempts to capture the Road Runner. He is aided in his attempts by devices mail-ordered from Acme Corporation, which never quite work the way they’re supposed to.

The feature will tell the story of a down-on-his-luck human attorney who takes on Wile E. as a client in his suit against Acme over its defective products, only to discover that his boss at his former law firm is representing Acme.

Cena will play the former boss in the feature, which seems like part courtroom drama, part family comedy.

Netflix’s Marvel series are leaving the streamer as rights revert to Disney

Netflix’s Marvel series, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders, are leaving the streamer on March 1^st.

Netflix’s license for the shows is expiring, with the rights now reverting to Disney. The company hasn’t revealed where the shows will end up just yet, but even with the more mature take on its characters, it seems likely that Disney+ is the logical destination.

In addition to Disney regaining control of the existing episodes of each series, Kevin Feige has indicated that there is a possibility to revive or reboot some of the shows.

Hulu orders a Futurama revival with most of the cast returning

After months of negotiations, Hulu has finalized a deal for 20 new episodes of the cult animated sci-fi comedy Futurama, set to premiere in 2023. In addition to original creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen returning, the majority of the voice cast is also set to come back, including Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman.

Missing from the list is John DiMaggio, who voices the robot Bender among half a dozen other characters. The role is currently being recast ahead of the first table read. The decision was made after DiMaggio’s negotiations with the studio came to a standstill, though there is a desire on both sides to have him rejoin the cast and reprise his role.

For Futurama, whose 20 new episodes are expected to run in two batches, this marks the third revival. Previously, it was revived for 4 direct-to-DVD movies, and then at Comedy Central for an additional three years.

Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series will premiere in May

Disney has revealed that its limited-run series Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on May 25^th.

The series is set 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, which saw Ewan McGregor’s Jedi knight Kenobi go into hiding after the fall of the Galactic Republic. Hayden Christensen is also set to return to play Darth Vader.

The Wolf Among Us 2 arrives in 2023

The revived Telltale Games team has announced that its long-awaited sequel to The Wolf Among Us will arrive in 2023. The Wolf Among Us 2 is set six months after the first season, and promises plenty of drama when a new case for Bigby Wolf gets the NYPD involved.

In 2019, LCG Entertainment resurrected Telltale after the studio’s collapse the year prior and revitalized the project. AdHoc studio is now developing the project, which is made up of previous Telltale employees, including those who worked on the original game. The studio has confirmed that the new game will make use of the Unreal engine as opposed to the engine previously used for the series.

Uncharted’s Nathan Drake is coming to Fortnite

Uncharted’s Nathan Drake and Chloe Frazer are making their way to Fortnite. Even before Epic Games was able to make the announcement, the community solved the riddle and revealed the crossover trailer.

The Uncharted collaboration launches on February 17^th, one day before the Uncharted film premieres in theaters. A new in-game item, Drake’s Map, will come to the game the following morning. These act like the Chapter 1 treasure maps, leading players on a hunt for buried “treasure,” or loot for your inventory.

The Nathan and Chloe skins will allow you to play as either the film versions of those characters or their Uncharted 4 counterparts.

Sony is acquiring Destiny studio Bungie

Sony is acquiring Bungie, the studio behind Destiny, in a deal worth $3.6 billion. Bungie will join the Sony Interactive Entertainment family, which already includes Insomniac Games, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, Sucker Punch Productions, and more.

According to a statement from Bungie CEO Pete Parsons, the company is positioning the acquisition as the start of a new era, one focused on global multimedia entertainment, not just games. The studio will retain creative control over its franchises and continue to develop for multiple platforms, not just PlayStation.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s CEO Jim Ryan also said that there are definitely more acquisitions coming in the company’s future, and that Sony’s goal is to deliver more live, online, multi-platform experiences.

James Gunn is developing another Suicide Squad spin-off for HBO Max

James Gunn has confirmed to Deadline that he’s working on another TV show for HBO Max that will be a spinoff of The Suicide Squad, though he can’t currently say what that will be.

When asked for more information, Gunn added, “It is connected to this universe, and I don’t think it will be the same genre as Peacemaker. It won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker, but it will be in the same universe.”

In addition, he also mentioned that there’s a really good chance we’ll be seeing a second season of Peacemaker, saying that it’s doing extraordinarily well and they just need to cross some Ts and dot some Is.

American’s McGee’s Alice is being developed for TV

Radar Pictures has secured the rights to American McGee’s Alice, the action-adventure game from EA, and has attached X-Men writer David Hayter to adapt the property for television.

Designed by American James McGee, the video game property includes the games Alice and its sequel Alice: Madness Returns, which are both twisted takes on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

The TV adaptation will begin after Alice returns from the trip through the Looking-Glass. Her house is burnt down and her parents have died in the fire. Alice is the only survivor of the terrible accident. Afterward, she gets locked up inside a mental institution and is slowly wasting away there before she is summoned to Wonderland again by the White Rabbit. But this time it’s a Wonderland gone seriously bad and gory. The only chance for Alice to restore her peace of mind and find out more about the death of her parents is to fight through Wonderland and free it from the evil powers.

No broadcaster or streaming platform has yet acquired the drama series.

Wordle has been purchased by the New York Times

Wordle, the once-a-day word game that has reached massive popularity since launching in October, has been purchased by the New York Times.

The Times did not disclose the exact terms of the Wordle acquisition, though it stated in a press release that it paid in the low-seven figures. On Twitter, Wordle creator Josh Wardle stated that while it’s been incredible to watch the game bring so much joy to so many, he’s found the experience a little overwhelming since he’s maintaining it by himself. The game will eventually move to the New York Times site, where it will be free to play for everyone, and win streaks will likely be preserved.

Halo TV series to premiere on Paramount+ this March

Paramount+’s live-action Halo series will debut on the streamer on March 24^th. The series stars Pablo Schreiber as video game icon Master Chief.

First announced back in 2013, the Halo series spent years in development hell before ViacomCBS announced last year that the show would premiere on Paramount+ instead of Showtime, as previously planned.

The creatives behind the series say Halo draws on the nearly twenty years of mythology and lore that has sprung out of the popular franchise. It will dramatize an epic conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant while weaving deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure, and a richly imagined vision of the future.

Masters of the Universe movie moves to Netflix with Kyle Allen as lead

The long-awaited live-action Masters of the Universe movie from Mattel Films has landed at Netflix with Kyle Allen set to play the hero He-Man.

The movie will be directed by the Nee brothers from a screenplay they wrote with Shang-Chi scribe David Callaham.

The Masters of the Universe lore centers around an orphan named Adam, who discovers he is a prince destined to be the savior of a far-away land and must quickly learn how to use his power to save his home from the evil Skeletor.

This most recent adaptation was previously in development at Sony, where at one point Noah Centineo was tapped to play the sword-wielding hero.

Respawn is making three more Star Wars games

EA has announced that Respawn Entertainment is making three more Star Wars games. The studio is working on a follow up to its hit 2019 action-adventure title Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, though it’s not clear if the upcoming game is a direct sequel.

A second title is a first-person shooter being overseen by a former Star Wars Battlefront producer. In addition, a strategy game produced by Respawn is on the way from Bit Reactor, a new third-party studio headed up by a developer who previously worked on the XCOM series.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will arrive on April 5^th

Two years after it was originally set to release, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will finally arrive on April 5^th. The long-awaited title from TT Games adapts all nine movies in the Skywalker Saga, and you’ll be able to choose which trilogy to start with.

There are new combat mechanics, including ways to string attacks together and defend yourself with counter moves in styles tailored to your favorite characters. Players will experience fresh blaster mechanics, with an over-the-shoulder perspective with a third-person aiming reticle, and a cover system. As expected, there will be a ton of lightsaber action, space dogfighting, and many opportunities to use Force powers.

Many levels will have multiple paths to explore and you’ll be able to take on side missions. Class-based abilities are upgradable and there are more than 300 playable characters to unlock. There’s also a Mumble Mode, which will replace intelligible voice lines with mumbling, for those who prefer their LEGO games in the classic style.

Murderville comes to Netflix on February 3^rd

Netflix has announced and debuted the first trailer for Murderville, a procedural crime improv comedy which is produced by and starring Will Arnett. Arnett plays Senior Detective Terry Seattle, who every day faces a new murder to solve with a celebrity guest star as his partner.

The catch is, the guest stars aren’t given a script. As they assist Terry clue by clue, they have to improvise their way through the case. In the end, it’s up to these celebrities alone to name the killer.

Based on the BAFTA award-winning BBC3 series Murder in Successville, the Arnett-led comedy will feature celebrity guests Conan O’Brien, Marshawn Lynch, Kumail Nanjiani, Annie Murphy, Sharon Stone, and Ken Jeong.

Murderville premieres on Netflix on February 3^rd.

Blizzard announces new survival game set in a new universe

Blizzard is getting into a new genre with the announcement that it’s working on a survival game. It seems that the project is in the early stages of development, so don’t expect any footage anytime soon.

The job posting from the company says that the survival game will be a place full of heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be lived. A vast realm of possibility, waiting to be explored.

The one detail that was confirmed is that the game will be available on PC and console. With the recent acquisition of Blizzard by Microsoft, that could mean it will be console-exclusive to Xbox, but that remains to be seen.

Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield explain why they returned for Spider-Man: No Way Home

Spoiler warning if you haven’t yet seen Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In a recent interview with Deadline, both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield revealed why they decided to return for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Maguire recalled his meeting with Marvel’s Kevin Feige and producer Amy Pascal, saying, “In that conversation, the intention, the kind of love and celebration of these movies and what it meant I think to Amy and Kevin was apparent, and to me, when artists or people who are steering the creative process have a kind of authentic, genuine intent of celebration and love, it just was so apparent in both of them, that I just wanted to join that. And I’m a big fan of Tom and those movies and Andrew. So, it was definitely intriguing, but yes, I was also going, ‘well, what are we going to do?”

Apparently, getting Maguire onboard was also a big selling point for Garfield. Once he knew his predecessor had joined the film, Garfield was game as well.

“Well, I was just waiting to see if Tobey was going to do it, and if Tobey was going to do it, then I was like, well, I have no choice, you know? I follow Tobey to the ends of the Earth. I’m a lemming for Tobey. But that was sincerely a big part of it when I was approached about it, and again, it’s similar to what Tobey was saying. It was like, oh, the intention feels very pure here, it actually feels like a great creative idea and a great creative story.”

Garfield added, “It wasn’t like they were just asking us to come and say hi and then leave again. But actually, have our presence being in service to Tom, being in service to Tom’s journey and where he is as Peter Parker, and I love the destiny feeling of the multiverse expanding in this film, and actually, without Tobey’s Peter and Andrew’s Peter being present for Tom’s Peter at this very moment, he may not become the Peter Parker that he’s supposed to become…Getting three Spider-Men together could go one of two ways, and I think it’s a testament to these guys that it went the way that it went, which was a brotherhood, which is just beautiful.”

Sony and Marvel actively developing Spider-Man 4

In a new interview with The New York Times, Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Sony producer Amy Pascal confirmed that development on a potential Spider-Man 4 has already begun.

While Pascal previously announced that another Spider-Man trilogy was on the way, those statements have been reported to be premature. However, at least a 4^th movie is looking more and more likely.

Feige said, “Amy and I and Disney and Sony are talking about – yes, we’re actively beginning to develop where the story heads next. Which I only say outright because I don’t want fans to go through any separation trauma like what happened after Far From Home. That will not be occurring this time.”

The separation trauma Feige refers to was the previous end of the partnership between Sony and Marvel that was eventually renewed. It looks as though the two studios don’t plan on ending that partnership anytime soon.

DC’s Blue Beetle movie shifts premiere plans from HBO Max to theaters

Warner Bros. and DC Films’ Blue Beetle movie is shifting its premiere plans. While originally being developed for HBO Max, the film will now get a theatrical release on August 18^th, 2023.

Blue Beetle will star Cobra Kai’s Xolo Mariduena as the Jaime Reyes version of the hero, who gains superpowers when he encounters alien armor. It was one of a number of DC films being developed for streaming, which include Batgirl, Zatanna, Static Shock, and Black Canary. The move suggests that the studio has gained more confidence in Blue Beetle’s ability to perform well at the box office.

Splinter Cell remake in development

Ubisoft has greenlit the development of a Splinter Cell remake. Led by Ubisoft Toronto, the game will be rebuilt from the ground up using their Snowdrop engine to deliver new-generation visuals and gameplay, and the dynamic lighting and shadows the series is known for.

Unlike Ubisoft’s signature open-world spaces, you’ll play in small, linear environments. The company wants to meet present-day gameplay expectations, but is also aware that the original Splinter Cell was appealing because it rewarded stealth players who demonstrated patience and planning.

The game’s creative director characterized this remake as a solid base for the future of the franchise, meaning that if you aren’t thrilled about the thought of a remake, this could lead to true sequels moving forward.

Mega Man movie in the works at Netflix

IGN is reporting that Mega Man will soon be coming to Netflix in a live-action adaptation of the classic Capcom video game franchise.

The project, which has yet to be confirmed by Netflix, is reportedly still very early in development. IGN is basing their news on the fact that the film’s production company let the information slip about the partnership during a recent website update.

A live-action Mega Man movie for 20^th Century Fox was first announced back in 2018 just days after the release of Mega Man 11, so the claims aren’t completely unwarranted.

Gotham Knights series in development for The CW

The CW is looking to expand its DC universe, as three writers from Batwoman are working with the network to develop a Gotham Knights series. However, the project is not a Batwoman spinoff, nor is it linked to the upcoming video game of the same name.

The logline for Gotham Knights reads, “In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors.”

Netflix is developing a Power Rangers universe of movies and series

Netflix is developing a Power Rangers universe of interconnected films and series.

eOne’s Michael Lombardo teased that an update may be revealed soon, saying, “Since we set up Power Rangers with Jonathan (Entwistle), we pitched really a whole-world approach. It’s not just one show, it is shows followed by films, and some kids’ programming. We have found a great writing partner for him and they are off. Knock on wood, Netflix is excited, we’re excited, and we hope to have some news soon.”

Netflix also recently picked up the rights to the second season of Power Rangers Dino Fury, the current incarnation of the long-running franchise. However, the new interconnected Power Rangers universe will be separate from all of the films and TV shows that preceded it.

Blade Runner series in development from Ridley Scott

Blade Runner director Ridley Scott has confirmed that a TV show based on the sci-fi classic is in development.

He said in an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today that, “We’re already into having written the pilot for Blade Runner, and the bible. So already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, which should probably be the first 10 hours.”

Scott didn’t provide any insight about who’s involved with the series or how it ties into his movie or the sequel, which was released in 2017.

Epic Games buys Guitar Hero’s Harmonix to create musical journeys in Fornite

Epic Games has acquired Harmonix, the studio behind music games like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and Fuser. While the studio stated that they’ll be working with Epic to bring their unique brand of musical gaming experiences to the Metaverse, their immediate plans are to create musical journeys and gameplay for Fortnite.

In the meantime, Harmonix says it will continue to support its existing slate of games. That means Rock Band players can continue to look forward to new DLC and Fuser players can expect the studio to continue hosting events. Additionally, any game that’s currently available through Steam will continue to be sold through Valve’s storefront.

Street Fighter’s Ryu, Chun-Li, and Akuma are coming to Brawlhalla

Street Fighter characters Ryu, Chun-Li, and Akuma are making their way to Ubisoft’s free-to-play platform fighter Brawlhalla.

Their arrival coincides with an in-game event featuring a new mode called Street Brawl, which adopts Street Fighter’s health bars and adds other aesthetic effects inspired by Capcom’s fighting game franchise. All three fighters are available to use in Brawlhalla right now.

Star Wars: Ahsoka casts Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren

Sources have confirmed to Variety that Natasha Liu Bordizzo has been cast as Sabine Wren for the Disney+ series Star Wars: Ahsoka.

Wren was first introduced to the Star Wars universe in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. She is a young Mandalorian and a weapons expert, particularly when it comes to explosives. She is also known for her love of graffiti and is a dropout of the Imperial Academy of Mandalore. After the fall of the Empire, Wren and Tano struck out in search of their missing friend, Ezra Bridger.

Scarlett Johansson is producing a “top secret” movie for Marvel

Kevin Feige has revealed that Scarlett Johansson is producing a “top secret Marvel Studios project.” He also confirmed that the movie in question would not be related to Black Widow.

Feige said, “Scarlett has lent her talent and star power to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade. That she’s chosen to play a key part in it for so many years, I am extremely grateful for. Working with her has truly been one of the most memorable and rewarding collaborations of my career.”

Feige didn’t share any additional details about Johansson’s next MCU project, but presumably, it’s a film that hasn’t been announced yet.

Netflix’s Arcane gets renewal for second season

Riot Games’ League of Legends animated series Arcane has been officially renewed for a second season at Netflix. Stars Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Katie Leung are set to reprise their roles for season two, which is currently in production.

Arcane follows the origins of popular League champions sisters Jinx and Vi as they seek to reunite. Overcoming the world of Arcane is a dark power that brings on violence and chaos, and threatens to keep the sisters apart.

Warner Bros. announces Smash-like fighter MultiVersus

Warner Bros. has announced MultiVersus, a Super Smash Bros-like fighter that brings together characters from various WB-owned properties like Justice League, Adventure Time, Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo, and Game of Thrones. The game is set to release in 2022 for consoles and PC, and will be free-to-play.

MultiVersus will support 1v1, 2v2, and 4-player free-for-all matches, set on stages themed around the characters available in the game. A partial roster has been revealed, with more characters to be announced, and each one will be voiced by familiar actors, such as Kevin Conroy as Batman, John DiMaggio as Jake the Dog, and even Maisie Williams as Arya Stark.

The currently announced roster includes Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Shaggy, Bugs Bunny, Arya Stark, Jake the Dog, Finn the Human, Steven Universe, Garnet, Tom and Jerry, and Reindog, an original character debuting in MultiVersus. Along with unique ability sets, each character will get customization through perk loadouts, skins, and emotes.

As a free-to-play game, MultiVersus will be supported by in-game purchases. What those purchases are remain to be seen, but the trailer shows what appears to be a battle pass system that’s likely to include cosmetics.

The game will support cross play and cross progression across all of its supported platforms, which include PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Series S & X, and PC.

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender series casts Uncle Iroh, Gyatso, and Zhao

Netflix has added three more actors to the cast of their Avatar: The Last Airbender series.

Paul Sun-Hyung Lee will play fan favorite Uncle Iroh, a retired Fire Nation general and the wise and nurturing mentor to his hot-headed nephew, Prince Zuko.

Lim Kay Siu will play Monk Gyatso, a kind and caring Air Nomad who is the guardian, father figure, and best friend to Aang.

Ken Leung will play Commander Zhao, a scheming and ambitious Fire Nation military officer who’s eager to leverage an unexpected encounter with a desperate Prince Zuko to advance his personal goals.

A new Earthworm Jim animated series is in development

A new Earthworm Jim animated TV series is in development from Interplay Entertainment, which owns the rights to the game franchise.

Like the games, the series would follow the adventures of the titular Jim, a worm in a futuristic robotic suit who fights evildoers. The series will also bring in new characters as they navigate the galaxy, where each planet is home to a race of anthropomorphic animals. Jim’s ultimate quest is to find his true home among the stars: a near-mythical planet called Earth.

The Batman: The Complete series coming to Blu-ray

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of The Batman: The Complete Series. The remastered collection will arrive on February 1^st, 2022 on Blu-ray and Digital in the United States and in Canada in a Blu-ray only format.

The series premiered in 2004 on Kids’ WB before shifting to Cartoon Network for subsequent seasons. The new collection includes all 65 episodes along with a long list of special features including quizzes and featurettes.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will arrive in 2022

In celebration of the Hargreeves siblings’ birthday, Netflix has released a brand new promo for the third season of The Umbrella Academy, confirming that the superpowered family will make their return in 2022.

It’s also been confirmed that some episodes of the new season will take place at Hotel Oblivion, which was the title of Gerard Way’s third volume in The Umbrella Academy comics. Further details about Season 3’s plot are still being kept under wraps, but given that they’ll be featuring Hotel Oblivion, the episodes might potentially cover some of the material from that book.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl adds Aang, Korra, and Toph

The final three characters of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl have been revealed. Rounding out a roster of popular Nickelodeon fighters are Aang and Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender, as well as Korra from The Legend of Korra.

With the addition of those three characters from the Avatar universe, the confirmed roster for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is now 20 characters deep and features other favorites like Leo and Mikey from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ren & Stimpy, Reptar, SpongeBob SquarePants and many more.

The game launches on October 5 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S&X, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Seinfeld hits Netflix, but aspect ratio change crops out some jokes

Classic ‘90s sitcom Seinfeld has arrived on Netflix after a six-year run on Hulu. Given that the show was filmed years before HD was a thing, it was originally displayed in a 4:3 aspect ratio on TV and the DVD sets that followed.

On Netflix, however, the show has been cropped into a 16:9 widescreen format to fit modern TVs, and as a result, some of the visual jokes have been cropped out.

A significant example has been pointed out by some Twitter users for the episode titled “The Pothole.” In the episode, George and Jerry are trying to find George’s lost keys, which were dropped into a pothole that was then paved over. In Netflix’s version, the pothole is completely cropped out, which leaves George yelling in the direction of a pothole that no one can see.

This isn’t a new problem for older shows coming to streaming services. A similar thing happened in 2019 when the entire run of The Simpsons hit Disney+. After a large number of complaints, Disney eventually released the seasons that aired in 4:3 in their original aspect ratio. Hopefully Netflix will do the same.

Babylon 5 reboot in development at The CW from J. Michael Straczynski

A Babylon 5 reboot is in development at The CW with original series creator J. Michael Straczynski onboard to write and executive produce.

The new iteration of the sci-fi series is described as a “from-the-ground-up reboot.”

Straczynski commented about the approach they’re taking with the reboot, saying, “In the years since Babylon 5, I’ve done a ton of other TV shows and movies, adding an equal number of tools to my toolbox, all of which I can bring to bear on one singular question: If I were creating Babylon 5 today, for the first time, know what I now know as a writer, what would it look like? How would it use all the storytelling tools and technological resources available in 2021 that were not on hand then? How can it be used to reflect the world in which we live, and the questions we are asking and confronting every day?”

“So we will not be retelling the same story in the same way. There would be no fun and no surprises. Better to go the way of Westworld or Battlestar Galactica where you take the original elements that are evergreens and put them in a blender with a ton of new, challenging ideas, to create something fresh yet familiar.”

The Boys spinoff series ordered by Amazon

The Boys spinoff is moving forward at Amazon. The streamer has handed a series order for its college-set spinoff from Eric Kripke’s breakout superhero drama. As part of the pickup, Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, who previously oversaw Marvel’s Agent Carter, have boarded the untitled series as showrunners.

In the works for more than a year, the untitled series is set at America’s only college exclusively for young-adult superheroes run by Vought International. It’s described as an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive superheroes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games — with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.

Said Kripke of the show, “Much like Mork & Mindy spun off from Happy Days, which is an insane and true fact, our spinoff will exist in the Vought Cinematic Universe, yet have a tone and style all its own. It’s our take on a college show, with an ensemble of fascinating, complicated, and sometimes deadly Young Supes.”

Netflix buys Oxenfree developer Night School Studio

The team behind hit indie game Oxenfree is joining Netflix, marking the first time the streaming giant has acquired a game developer. Netflix didn’t share many details about what it plans for the Night School team, but at very least it sounds like the studio will continue work on Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, and that its previous games will be available through the streaming platform.

Night School Studio said of the acquisition, “Our explorations in narrative gameplay and Netflix’s track record of supporting diverse storytellers was such a natural pairing. It felt like both teams came to this conclusion instinctively.”

Russell T Davies to return as Doctor Who showrunner

BBC has announced that Russell T Davies will make his return to Doctor Who for its upcoming 60^th Anniversary in 2023. The announcement comes after it was confirmed last July that current showrunner Chris Chibnall will be leaving the series after the upcoming thirteenth season and three 2022 specials.

Responsible for Doctor Who’s revival in 2005, he is credited with propelling the show into a global phenomenon and making it one of TV’s biggest hits. His tenure on the show oversaw a surge in popularity enjoying huge acclaim and success, enough to lead to two spin-off series, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures during that time.

The Witcher Season 3 and more spin-offs announced

Netflix has announced that their world of The Witcher is expanding. At their Tudum event, they announced a third season of the hit series is on the way. Additionally, a second anime feature is coming, and a kids and family series is in the works.

So far, no specific details have been revealed for any of those upcoming projects, but Season 2 of The Witcher is set to premiere on December 17th.

Marvel seeking legal action to maintain rights to some of its key characters

Marvel is currently suing to maintain full control of Avengers characters including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Falcon, Thor, and others. The new lawsuits are directed at the heirs of their creators, including Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and Gene Colan.

Under current U.S. laws, the author of a given work (or their heirs) can usually reclaim the rights to that work for themselves after a certain period of time. However, Marvel is seeking declaratory relief, claiming that because these characters were created as works for hire, they are ineligible for copyright termination. The work-for-hire defense has been Marvel’s go-to strategy in the past, most notably in cases against Jack Kirby and his family.

If Marvel loses, Disney would have to share ownership of characters worth billions. Ultimately, this isn’t a threat to having any of Marvel’s characters taken away from them, simply that they would share ownership and profits with those characters’ creators.

Marvel’s Hit-Monkey series will premiere in November

Over two years ago, Marvel TV announced a deal to bring Hit-Monkey, M.O.D.O.K., and two other animated series to Hulu. However, Howard the Duck, and the Tigra and Dazzler animated series were cancelled while in development. Hit-Monkey survived the axe however, and will soon join M.O.D.O.K. on Hulu, debuting on November 17th.

In the series, which takes some liberties with the character’s origin, the Japanese snow macaque destined to become Hit-Monkey lives peacefully until he encounters a wounded hitman named Bryce. After nursing Bryce back to health, Hit-Monkey is unable to prevent his demise. Therefore, Hit-Monkey decides to become an assassin, while Bryce’s ghost remains in this world to advise him.

THQ Nordic announces SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake video game

SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star will stumble through a Rick and Morty-esque multiverse in an upcoming adventure game, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. Announced by developer THQ Nordic, the game is coming soon to Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

The game follows SpongeBob and Patrick after the two unintentionally open up portals to other universes. In the game, you’ll be able explore seven different worlds and dress your characters up with 30 skins.

Netflix’s nonlinear heist series Jigsaw casts Giancarlo Esposito in lead role

Netflix has officially given a series order to a brand-new heist drama series titled Jigsaw, which is being described as an innovative and suspenseful crime thriller. The series is developed to take a nonlinear approach to storytelling, allowing viewers to watch the first seven episodes in any order leading up to the finale.

Emmy-nominated actor Giancarlo Esposito has signed on for the leading role of Leo Pap. He joins a cast of Paz Vega, Rufus Sewell, and Jai Courtney, among others. Esposito will play a veteran thief who can’t stay away from a life of crime.

Jigsaw is loosely based on a real story in which $70 billion in Wall Street bonds were at risk due to flood waters caused by Hurricane Sandy. The story spans 25 years, from decades before the heist to a year afterward.

Alan Wake Remastered coming this Fall

Alan Wake, the acclaimed 2010 supernatural mystery by Remedy Entertainment, will be remastered and published this fall for present-day platforms, promising 4K resolutions, the original game’s two expansions, and director’s commentary.

Alan Wake Remastered is being published by Epic Games for PS4, PS5, PC via the Epic Games Store, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. This version includes the main game, originally launched in May 2010, and the DLC episodes “The Signal” and “The Writer.”

Originally published as an Xbox 360 exclusive, Alan Wake was Remedy’s first console launch since 2003’s Max Payne 2. It was nominated by several publications in their best-of lists for 2010, and picked up three British Academy Video Game Awards nominations, and one from the Spike Video Game Awards.

New Pokemon movie coming to Netflix next month

The first trailer for the next entry in the Pokemon movie franchise has been revealed, with Pokemon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle set to release next month on Netflix.

Set within the forest of Okoya, the film will center on Koko, a human boy who has been raised by the Mythical Pokémon Zarude. Since he’s grown up only around Pokémon, Koko believes without a doubt that he is a Pokémon, but a chance meeting with Ash and Pikachu leaves him with his first interaction with another human and might have him questioning his own past.

Alongside the news of the film and trailer, fans of the Pokémon series can also grab some in-game treats to celebrate the upcoming film as well. In their announcement, The Pokémon Company announced that they would be giving out Dada Zarude and a Shiny Celebi to owners of Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield. All players have to do is sign up for the Pokémon Trainer Club newsletter and opt-in for email marketing by September 25, 2021, and they should receive an email with a password for both Pokémon.

Pokemon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle is currently set to release on October 8, 2021, exclusively on Netflix.

WWE’s interactive film Escape the Undertaker coming to Netflix in October

Netflix and WWE have announced their next project together. Escape the Undertaker is an interactive horror movie that’s coming to the streamer on October 5^th, just in time for Halloween.

The movie stars the legendary Undertaker, along with Big E, Xavier Woods, and Kofi Kingston, who comprise The New Day, one of WWE’s most popular teams of the last decade. The film sees the trio visit The Undertaker’s mansion, which turns out to be an extreme haunted house, packed to the brim with supernatural challenges. You’ll decide the fate of The New Day as the group tries to survive the wrath of The Undertaker.

Other WWE-related fictional projects have landed on Netflix over the last few years, including a sitcom called The Big Show Show and The Main Event, a movie in which a kid becomes a wrestler after finding a magical mask. The latest offering will add to Netflix’s growing library of interactive content.

Manifest Season 4 ordered by Netflix

Manifest has officially been saved by Netflix. After weeks of negotiations, the streamer has closed a deal for a super-sized fourth and final season of the missing plane drama. In a nod to Manifest’s fans and Flight 828, the announcement of the Season 4 pickup was made on August 28^th, or “828 Day” at 8:28 AM pacific time.

The final season of Manifest will be comprised of 20 episodes. As is customary for series on Netflix, the season will be split into multiple parts.

The pickup by Netflix will give fans answers after the cancellation by NBC made for a premature ending, leaving unanswered questions and unresolved Season 3 finale cliffhangers for the series, which had been originally conceived by creator Jeff Rake for a six-season run. That plan will now be condensed to bring the story of the passengers of Flight 828 to a proper conclusion in four seasons. The 20-episode pickup will help toward that goal as it represents Manifest‘s largest season order.

Marvel is developing a Halloween special for Disney+

According to The Wrap, Marvel Studios is actively searching for a Latino actor to lead the cast of an as-yet untitled Halloween Special that will air on Disney+.

Individuals with knowledge say the character may be based on “Werewolf by Night,” the name used by two separate Marvel characters.

The first, Jack Russell, is a descendant of the mystically-altered offshoot of humans known as Lycanthropes, who eventually becomes capable of transforming on his own volition even without a full moon, and retaining his intellect while transformed. Among other things, that series is notable for having the first appearance of Moon Knight, a character whose own Disney+ series will stream in 2022.

The second, Jake Gomez, is a member of a Native American tribe whose family has been cursed with lycanthropy, when he comes in conflict with a nefarious pharmaceutical company exploiting members of the tribe.

It’s not clear which, if either, version of Werewolf by Night will serve as inspiration for the TV special.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will arrive in Spring 2022

A new trailer has been released for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and with it, a release window announcement of Spring 2022.

The game adapts all nine entries in the Skywalker saga, with the trailer including a bunch of nods to famous scenes from the Star Wars movies. Along with X-wing battles and lightsaber duels with the likes of Darth Vader and Darth Maul, you’ll see moments like Rey flipping over Kylo Ren’s TIE fighter. The game includes 20 unlockable planets you can travel between and more than 300 playable characters.

This is the first game in the Lego Star Wars series since 2016, when TT Games released Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It marks the first time that the studio has adapted The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Warner Bros. initially planned to release Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in 2020, and then in Spring 2021, but TT Games needed more time to finish it.

Sony rebrands their Marvel movies as Sony’s Spider-Man Universe

Plans have been in place for awhile to tie all of Sony’s comic book properties together, and in May of last year it was announced that the franchise would be known as the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, which isn’t really a catchy or efficient title. The studio has now announced an official rebrand for the effort titled Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

Sony’s current deal with Marvel Studios only includes Spider-Man: No Way Home and one MCU film to be named later. Regardless, it’s possible that Sony’s MCU contract could still be renewed for additional movies. Holland’s contract with Sony and Marvel expires after No Way Home, so it’s likely that the next batch of negotiations will result in the actor jumping between the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, given that his character’s name is right in the branding.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is currently only one movie old, with Venom the sole effort that’s managed to hit theaters so far. Venom: Let There Be Carnage will mark the second installment, while Jared Leto’s Morbius will premiere on January 28 next year, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter coming on January 13, 2023.

Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop gets first look images and premiere date

Netflix has revealed the first look images of John Cho and the rest of the main cast for their upcoming adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, as well as announcing a premiere date of Friday, November 19^th.

Based on Shinichir? Watanabe’s cult anime series, Cowboy Bebop follows a group of misfit bounty hunters, led by Spike Spiegel as they search for the galaxy’s most valuable criminals. Mustafa Shakir also stars as Spike’s trusted co-pilot Jet Black and Daniella Pineda as the highly-skilled bounty hunter Faye Valentine.

Netflix’s images also reveal the Bebop in its mechanical glory, as well as Ein, the experiment-turned-pet Corgi.

Brandon Routh will star in the Magic: The Gathering series

Netflix’s animated Magic: The Gathering series is running full-steam ahead. Set to premiere in late 2022, Brandon Routh has been announced to lead the voice cast.

Picked up straight to series in June 2019, the show unites familiar and well-loved Planeswalkers for Magic fans and introduces new characters to tell a new story. Routh will voice the role of Gideon, an unfalteringly heroic Planeswalker in the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.

Anthony Mackie to star in Marvel’s Captain America 4 film

Anthony Mackie has closed a deal to carry the shield and star in his first leading superhero film in Captain America 4.

While Mackie and the folks at Marvel Studios have tried to keep things under wraps, Deadline is reporting that the actor will be reprising his role as the newly minted Captain America. Malcolm Spellman, the head writer and creator of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, will write the fourth installment of the Captain America franchise.

Fast & Furious 10 sets 2023 release date

Coming off of the theatrical run of F9: The Fast Saga, Universal Pictures has officially announced the release date for Justin Lin’s upcoming tenth installment to the blockbuster action series. Set as the penultimate movie of the main franchise, Fast & Furious 10 is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 7, 2023, nearly two years after F9 made its debut.

Fast & Furious 10 will once again be directed by Justin Lin, who will also serve as the director for the final installment, with Chris Morgan attached to pen the script. Even though the official cast hasn’t been announced, it’s highly likely that the main cast will return to reprise their respective roles.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe reboot series premiere date

Netflix has released the first trailer and announced a September 16 premiere date for its new CG animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. This is the second of Netflix’s MOTU series, with this one being aimed at a younger audience than Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation.

The new series reimagines the classic story of the Guardians of Grayskull, with the official synopsis reading: In Eternia, the first planet of creation, a demonic tyrant rises: Skeletor! With dark armies at his command, Skeletor is on the march, hell-bent on capturing Eternia’s kingdoms, and its ultimate prize – Castle Grayskull, the ancient fortress of mystery said to contain the greatest power in the universe. It’s up to He-Man, voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, and his brave squad of rookie heroes to stop Skeletor and restore the peace. Both sides come armed with enchanted Power Weapons – transforming them into Masters of the Primal Powers of the Universe. It’s Master vs. Dark Master, He-Man vs. Skeletor – fighting for control of Eternia, Castle Grayskull, and the fate of us all. In the end, who will become Master of the Universe?

Manifest might get resurrected for Season 4

For Manifest fans, the recent cancellation of the series meant leaving questions that might never get answered, but recent news brings hope for the former NBC show.

Deadline is reporting that producing studio Warner Bros TV is in the home stretch of complex negotiations with Netflix about a Season 4 order for the sci-fi drama, as the show has been topping the streamer’s viewership charts since June. Because of its newfound success, WBTV has already started making deals with the cast and writers for its potential revival.

However, it’s stressed that the negotiations between Netflix and Warner Bros. TV are difficult because of factors involving Netflix wanting to also acquire the global rights to all Manifest seasons. This is an issue since the studio has already sold the series to international markets.

Manifest centered around a commercial airplane that mysteriously disappears, only to reappear five years later. While no time had passed for those on board, the world went on without them, and new mysteries unfold for the passengers as they seek to find answers as to how and why their plane disappeared years ago.

Cast revealed for Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series

Nearly three years since the project was first announced, Netflix has finally revealed the main cast for the live-action series adaptation of Nickelodeon’s beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender.

After the surprising exit of original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko last year, many fans have become very doubtful if Netflix would be able to deliver and give justice to the live-action adaptation they’ve been hoping for. Despite this major setback, it looks like the streamer remains committed in keeping its promise of providing a culturally appropriate adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender by officially enlisting a group of diverse young actors.

Leading the series is 11-year-old Gordon Cormier, who has been tapped to take on the role of Aang. Joining him are Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, and Dallas Liu who have been cast for the respective roles of Katara, Sokka, and Zuko.

Marvel Studios planning multiple new animated series

Marvel’s What If…? marks the MCU’s first foray into animation, but far from its last. Executive producer Brad Winderbaum has told Variety that multiple animated series are in various phases of development for Disney Plus, in addition to a second season of What If…? and a series of photo-real animated shorts centered on Baby Groot that are both already in production.

Winderbaum says the company was driven by the creative freedom demanded by What If…? – that staging new versions of major action sequences from just about every movie within the MCU was only possible through animation.

He went on to say, “We realized that there’s a lot of cool avenues you can explore with animation. Any project that we create is going to be something that needs to be animated in order for the story to be told. There’s very little desire to take a piece of IP that’s popular because we’re coming out with a movie and just make an animated show about it. We’re not going to do that.”

Animation’s long production process means the new shows likely won’t start hitting the MCU’s crowded slate until 2023 at the earliest. But Winderbaum did confirm they will involve original ideas that draw from titles and characters already explored in live action as well as previously untapped sources from the Marvel comics library. And yes, like the rest of the MCU, they will all be connected.

Superman: The Animated Series remaster is coming to Blu-Ray this Fall

Next month will mark the 25th anniversary of Superman: The Animated Series. To celebrate, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC are releasing the complete series on Blu-Ray, which will feature remastered versions of all 54 episodes.

In addition, the collection will include several hours of bonus features headlined by an all-new featurette entitled Superman: Timeless Icon, which details the creation of one of the most beloved animated superheroes in history. It will also feature audio commentary for the episodes Stolen Memories, The Last Son of Krypton – Part 1, and The Main Man – Part 2.

Superman: The Complete Animated Series collection will be available as a Blu-Ray/Digital HD box set on October 12^th, 2021.

Idris Elba to voice Knuckles, Superman in Fortnite, & Gomez and Morticia Addams cast – 2021-08-11

Idris Elba cast as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Hot off his starring role in The Suicide Squad, Idris Elba has announced that he’s joining Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie, voicing the character Knuckles.

Knuckles first appeared as an antagonist in the 1994 Sega video game Sonic the Hedgehog 3, tricked by the evil Dr. Robotnik into thinking that Sonic is his enemy, before switching sides and joining the blue hero. He became a playable character in the follow-up game “Sonic and Knuckles” released later the same year.

Elba has lent his voice to several projects, including animated features Finding Dory and Zootopia, and animation/live-action hybrid The Jungle Book, all released in 2016. His casting in Sonic 2 only heightens curiosity as to who will play Sonic’s loyal sidekick Tails, who is also set to join the sequel.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is scheduled to open on April 8, 2022.

Superman is now playable in Fortnite

The Man of Steel is now playable in Fortnite. Epic Games released new skins and cosmetics for Superman, letting players drop onto the island as Kal-El himself and earn a slew of super-rewards as part of Fortnite’s Chapter 2, Season 7 battle pass. In the story, someone stole Clark Kent’s memories, and it will be up to the fans to discover what happened.

Those Superman rewards include Daily Planet back bling, a Fortress of Solitude-inspired pickaxe, and the chance to play Fortnite as mild-mannered Clark Kent.

Completing the Epic Quests will net you even more rewards, including the Shadow alt style for Clark Kent, Superman, and the previously mentioned accessories.

Gomez and Morticia Addams cast for Netflix’s live-action Wednesday series

Netflix has announced the casting of two major characters for their upcoming live-action series Wednesday, based on The Addams Family. Luis Guzman has closed a deal to play the debonair Gomez Addams, while Catherine Zeta-Jones will portray the role of Morticia Addams. The two join the already cast Jenna Ortega who will be playing the titular Wednesday Addams.

Wednesday will be executive produced and directed by Tim Burton, as he makes his television directorial debut. The 8-episode series is described as a coming-of-age comedy that will be a sleuthing, supernaturally-infused mystery. It will chart Wednesday’s years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the town, and solve a mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new relationships at Nevermore.

The Orville Season 3 update, New World delayed again, & Stranger Things 4 – 2021-08-09

Hulu gives update on Season 3 of The Orville

Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi drama The Orville, which moved from Fox to Hulu in 2019 for its third season, was hit hard by the pandemic, which heavily disrupted production. This left fans with a long wait after the second season concluded in April 2019.

Jordan Helman, head of scripted originals at Hulu, has provided an update on progress. He said that he’s seen cuts of the show coming in and is hopeful of a premiere sooner rather than later.

He told Deadline, “The past year and a half has been complicated on a variety of levels as it pertains to production. I can’t share a launch date, but we’re really excited about what we’ve seen thus far.”

Helman also teased the possibility of a fourth season of the show, or at least keeping the door open. He said that the “future of the show remains an open conversation and there have been no conversations otherwise.”

Amazon once again delays its New World MMO

Amazon has delayed New World just weeks before its previously announced August 31^st release date. It will now arrive about a month later, on September 28^th, so that Amazon Game Studios can spend an extra few weeks polishing, fixing bugs, and improving stability. The company says it decided to delay New World again following player feedback it collected during the MMO’s recent closed beta.

An official statement read, “This was not an easy decision to make. We know this isn’t the first time we’ve changed our launch date in pursuit of quality, and that it can be disappointing to wait a bit longer. But we want to be sure we deliver you the highest quality game possible at launch.”

This is New World’s fourth delay in its development history. When Amazon first announced the game, it said it would come out in May 2020. Its release date initially slipped to August 25th, 2020, before Amazon announced a month later it was pushing the game back to spring 2021. At the start of the year, it then delayed the game to its most recently planned August 31st release date.

Stranger Things 4 set to arrive in 2022

Netflix has released a brand-new teaser for the highly-anticipated fourth season of Stranger Things, confirming that the series has been slated to make its return in 2022.

This could be the most ambitious season of Stranger Things to date, as filming has taken place in Georgia, Lithuania, and New Mexico. Part of the season will be set in Russia, where Jim Hopper is being held captive.

Season 4 will also introduce a number of new characters, most notably Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund as Victor Creel, a disturbed and intimidating man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s.

Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall to leave Doctor Who in 2022

Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to play The Doctor will bow out in Fall 2022, along with showrunner Chris Chibnall.

Chibnall is currently writing and producing the next series of Doctor Who, which will air later this year. It will be followed by three specials, the first of which will be broadcast on New Year’s Day, with another later in Spring 2022, and finally a feature-length special in Fall 2022 where the Doctor will regenerate once more.

In a statement, Whittaker said, “In 2017 I opened my glorious gift box of size 13 shoes. I could not have guessed the brilliant adventures, worlds and wonders I was to see in them. My heart is so full of love for this show, for the team who make it, for the fans who watch it and for what it has brought to my life.”

Chibnall added in a statement of his own, “Jodie and I made a “three series and out” pact with each other at the start of this once-in-a-lifetime blast. So now our shift is done, and we’re handing back the TARDIS keys. Jodie’s magnificent, iconic Doctor has exceeded all our high expectations. She’s been the gold standard leading actor, shouldering the responsibility of being the first female Doctor with style, strength, warmth, generosity, and humor. She captured the public imagination and continues to inspire adoration around the world, as well as from everyone on the production.”

Speculation will now turn to who Whittaker’s replacement might be, as Doctor Who approaches its 60th anniversary in 2023.

Sweet Tooth renewed for a second season at Netflix

Netflix has officially renewed the hit fantasy series adaptation of Sweet Tooth for a second season, after nearly two months since it made its debut. The second season will consist of eight, one-hour episodes.

Based on Jeff Lemire’s DC Comics series, Sweet Tooth is described as a family-friendly storybook adventure. The show centers around Gus — part deer, part boy — who leaves his home in the forest to find the outside world ravaged by a cataclysmic event. He joins a ragtag family of humans and animal-children hybrids like himself, searching for answers about this new world and the mystery behind his hybrid origins.

Cyberpunk cat game Stray will arrive in early 2022

Developer BlueTwelve Studio has released a nearly 4-minute gameplay trailer for their cyberpunk cat adventure, Stray.

In the opening moments of Stray, the feline protagonist finds himself injured and separated from his family. Gameplay involves using his physical abilities as a cat to navigate the environment and solve puzzles.

You’ll also team up with a helpful drone companion named B-12, who will interact with objects in the world, communicate with the city’s robotic inhabitants, and store precious items that you find during your journey. But above all, B-12 is a friendly being with a mysterious story – learning about his past as his relationship with the cat evolves is a key element to this adventure.

An adventure game at its core, not everything will be explained clearly, so it will be up to the most attentive and insightful players to figure out what exactly this place is, who these inhabitants and creatures are, and the story and purpose of this beguiling world in which we’re immersed as the cat journeys to return to his family.

Stray is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC sometime in early 2022.

Live-action Pokemon series in development at Netflix

According to Variety, a new Pokemon series is in early development at Netflix.

As the project is still in its early days, no details are available about the plot. However, sources say that Joe Henderson is attached to write and executive produce. Henderson currently serves as co-showrunner and executive producer on the popular Netflix series “Lucifer,” which is preparing to air its sixth and final season at the streamer.

Sources also say that the project would be a live-action series similar to the Detective Pikachu film starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith that was released in 2019.

The move to develop an original Netflix Pokemon series comes as the streamer has made itself the home to multiple existing Pokemon shows, including “Pokemon: Indigo League” and “Pokemon Journeys” among others. The streamer has also been making a strong push into anime in recent years, having previously announced original series based on “Far Cry,” “Splinter Cell,” and “Terminator”, while also moving into more live-action adaptations of anime titles as well, including the upcoming “Cowboy Bebop” and “One Piece” live-action shows.

Dexter: New Blood limited series release date revealed

During Dexter’s Comic-Con@Home panel for the upcoming special event series, now officially titled Dexter: New Blood, a sneak peek trailer was released teasing the return of the Dark Passenger. The limited series will premiere on Showtime on Sunday, November 7^th.

Set 10 years after Dexter went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, the series finds him living under an assumed name, Jim Lindsay, in the small town of Iron Lake, New York. Dexter may be embracing his new life, but in the wake of unexpected events in this close-knit community, his Dark Passenger beckons.

Joining Hall, the cast also includes Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah, Jack Alcott, and Clancy Brown. It was recently revealed that Jennifer Carpenter and John Lithgow will be reprising their roles as Debra Morgan and the Trinity Killer, respectively.

Reuniting Hall with original series showrunner Clyde Phillips, Dexter: New Blood is currently in production on 10 one-hour episodes in Western Massachusetts.

Vince McMahon limited series in the works from WWE & Blumhouse

Blumhouse Television has officially teamed up with WWE to develop a brand new scripted series titled The United States of America vs. Vince McMahon. The series will be centered around the 90s steroids case where McMahon was accused by the government of giving steroids to wrestlers.

McMahon has been at the helm of WWE for approximately four decades. During that time, he oversaw the expansion of the company into the dominant force in professional wrestling, bringing it to a national audience with an immense cultural impact. In addition to working behind the scenes, he began appearing onscreen as the Mr. McMahon character in the mid-1990s, famously feuding with top star Stone Cold Steve Austin among others.

In 1994, the U.S. government indicted McMahon for allegedly supplying anabolic steroids to WWE talent. McMahon, with his liberty at stake, two school-aged children at home, and WWE on the brink of bankruptcy, refused to take a plea deal. Ultimately, McMahon stood trial and was acquitted unanimously by a jury of his peers and went on to build the WWE into a multi-billion-dollar empire.

Blumhouse Television President Chris McCumber said, “We have a dramatic, riveting saga – one that’s crazier than fiction – that will appeal to the cross-section of Blumhouse and WWE fans. To say I’m thrilled about collaborating again with WWE is an understatement.”

Game of Thrones animated series, Minions in Minecraft, & Netflix getting video games – 2021-07-19

HBO Max developing multiple Game of Thrones animated series

HBO Max is developing multiple animated projects inspired by the award-winning hit series Game of Thrones. It was announced in January that the streamer was developing an animated drama and was being led by HBO drama head Francesca Orsi and her group. HBO Max is now reportedly working on at least two additional potential animated series, with one of the projects being set in The Golden Empire of Yi Ti, a territory that was never seen on the original live-action series.

Yi Ti is a region in the continent of Essos, near the south-eastern limits of the known world. The society is considered one of the oldest and most advanced in author George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe, and is inspired by Imperial China, in the same way that Westeros was inspired by Medieval Europe.

While those projects are currently in the early stages of development, the only post-GoT project certain to hit the air is the prequel House of the Dragon. That series will tell the story of the Targaryen Civil War that takes place 300 years before the events of the original series, and is set for release in 2022.

Minions have arrived in Minecraft

The reach of Despicable Me’s Minions continues to grow. After three Despicable Me movies, a cartoon series, a Minion-centric spinoff movie, and an upcoming sequel to that offshoot called Minions: The Rise of Gru, the Minions are making their next move… into Minecraft.

The Minions x Minecraft add-on from Illumination launched Friday, and you can buy it in the Minecraft Marketplace. The downloadable content does more than just add blocky versions of the yellow characters to Minecraft. It also lets you help Gru fight villains like Vicious Six, El Macho, and Vector. It’s apparently part of the lead-up to Minions: The Rise of Gru, which comes to theaters on July 1, 2022.

Netflix will reportedly offer video games within the next year

Netflix may be a TV show, movie and game streaming platform in the near future. According to Bloomberg, the company has hired Mike Verdu, a former Oculus and EA exec, as vice president of game development. Verdu was the VP of augmented and virtual reality games and content at Facebook, where he worked with developers for the Oculus Rift, Quest, and Go. From 2017 to 2018, he was also the head of EA Mobile and oversaw the studios that worked on Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, SimCity BuildIt, Plants vs. Zombies, and Sims Free Play, among others.

The company will reportedly build out its gaming team in the coming months to be able to start offering games for streaming within the next year. Netflix isn’t exactly inexperienced in the area and previously developed games based on its popular shows. However, it released those titles on mobile and consoles — Bloomberg says the company won’t be making a separate platform for its upcoming video games and will instead make them available alongside its shows and movies under their own category. Also, the streaming giant reportedly has no plans to charge extra for game access, though it’s unclear if the additional content will lead to a future price hike.

WandaVision’s Matt Shakman to direct the next Star Trek film

WandaVision director Matt Shakman is moving from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to seek out new life and new civilizations. Hot off of his directing Emmy nomination for Disney+’s WandaVision comes the news that Shakman has signed on to direct a currently untitled Star Trek movie for Paramount, which has a release date of June 9, 2023.

The script comes from go-to blockbuster screenwriters Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, with J.J. Abrams producing. At this stage, it’s unknown if cast members from Abrams’ 2009 reboot, led by Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, will be in the film.

Shakman is a veteran TV director, whose credits include Game of Thrones, The Boys, Succession, Fargo and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but this will be his first feature. Recently, his series WandaVision captured 23 Emmy nominations, including a directing nom for himself.
