Warner Bros. has closed a deal with Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment to produce another film in the I Am Legend story. A deal was also made with Arash Amel (The Expatriate) to write the script.
Deadline is reporting that “the intention is for Will Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, who was the last man on Earth doing battle with a mutated mob in New York City after an apocalyptic man-made virus wiped out the population.”
While rumors of a prequel have been circling for years, the report states that this next film is not being planned as one. This creates an interesting conundrum given the fact that the character of Robert Neville meets his demise at the end of the previous movie. How the filmmakers plan on dealing with this remains to be seen.
